Supporting SCWS
Our school is a living organism, which is constantly striving to improve and grow its programs and services to children and the community. The Development Office's task is to support this growth on all levels and to build relationships with parents, alumni, grandparents, friends, foundations, corporations, and the larger community in general.
The Santa Cruz Waldorf School has entered into a major growth phase by adding the high school to include older children, and a three-day kindergarten program to include children under the age of 4 years 9 months. Over the next years, we will continue on this path by adding three more grades to our high school and growing a parent toddler program.
Currently we operate four different fundraising programs, all of which are supporting our programs:
- Annual Giving is our annual appeal to supplement our specialty programs: Eurythmy, World Languages, P.E and Games, Handwork, Woodwork, Gardening, and various electives. Approximately 5% of the school's budget is raised through unrestricted gifts to this fund.
- The High School Fund was set up in 2002 to support the start-up phase of our high school.
- The Gudrun Monasch Scholarship Endowment Fund was created in 1997 with the long-term goal of supporting our Financial Aid Program. Monies are collected in a restricted fund and only after a certain principal is reached will the interest be disbursed to fund scholarships.
- The Strings Program Fund was created in 1998 to build up strings instruction and eventually a school orchestra. Funds are used to supplement instruction hours and to purchase instruments.
Our long-term goal is the completion of our campus build-out project. After ten years of negotiations, we finally received our use permit extension, allowing us to obtain our building permit. This project will begin in the fall of 2006 with a complete redesign of our driveway, traffic flow and parking lot. We anticipate an overall build out phase of about 5-8 years. During this time, we will reengineer the drainage and grading of our red and green fields, and build a new eurythmy room and two more classrooms. In the final phase, we will crown our redesigned campus with a new administration building and a multi-purpose hall.
