Admission Procedures

  1. Investigate Santa Cruz Waldorf School by attending a Walk Though the Grades, a Morning in the Kindergarten or another Enrollment Event. (See Enrollment Events) If you would like to read about Waldorf education, we suggest the website of The Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, or Waldorf Answers. We encourage you to have an understanding and appreciation of Waldorf education before you make the decision to apply to our school. Please also know that the Santa Cruz Waldorf School has only very limited resources to support children with special needs. If you know that your child has special learning needs, please let us know immediately so that we can ascertain whether our school can fully serve your child and her/his specific needs.

  2. When the decision to apply is made, submit to the school office a completed Application for Admission along with a non-refundable application fee. Kindergarten applications received by February 1st will receive first consideration. Our Registration Day is the last day before our spring break.

  3. An interview with the prospective student and his or her parents will be scheduled with the teacher whose class the child would enter. If a child has any special learning needs a member of the Care Group will assist in determining whether SCWS will be a good fit for the child. In the case of kindergarten applicants, the child will be interviewed by one of the kindergarten teachers, but may be placed in any of the three classes.

  4. If the child is accepted and space is available in the class, the school office will mail a confirmation of acceptance along with an Enrollment Contract. If a space is not currently available, your child will be placed in a wait pool and you will be notified as soon as there is a space in the class available for your child.

  5. The signed enrollment contract together with a non-refundable tuition deposit must be returned to the school office on or by Registration Day, or within 2 weeks of receipt of the confirmation and contract in order to reserve your child's space.

  6. Before the student's first day of class, registration forms including immunization records must be filed with the office.

  7. If a family requests a tuition adjustment conversation (see Tuition and Fees), the entire tuition adjustment process must be completed before the student begins attending class. The tuition adjustment conversation is only scheduled after the completed tuition adjustment forms and most recent tax forms have been submitted to the office, and after the child has been accepted for enrollment.
